Many of Hollywood’s hottest stars including Oprah and Supermodel Frederique Van Der Wal believe in the youthful effects of Restylane and according to one of the UK’s leading doctors, Restylane will remain the number one filler for celebrities.
Restylane is still the number one filler for UK cosmetic physicians despite competition from rival products. Now, with the introduction of Juvederm in the US one of the UK’s principal cosmetic surgeons, who has experience with both products, has spoken out about the benefits of Restylane over its competitors.
Dr. Ross Perry from Cosmedics Clinics UK says Restylane will not be replaced by rival product Juvederm, despite the latter being cheaper. He claims the success of Restylane will stop Juvederm making any impact in the cosmetic industry.
Restylane is a temporary filler used to smooth out facial wrinkles and enhance lips. It has been the leading filler in both the US and the UK since it arrived on the market almost 3 years ago.
Earlier this month Allergan, the makers of Botox, got the all clear from the FDA for it’s new product Juvederm. Hailed as “the next generation” of fillers, Juvederm has been on the UK market for several years but has never managed to overshadow Restylane.
Both products have their similarities. Both are natural non-animal products, are naturally integrated into the tissue and are completely biodegradable but Juvederm’s makers claim it delivers sustained results for up to six months longer than other products.
So why has it not made an impact in the UK?
According to Dr. Perry Allergan’s claims are unfounded. He says, “Whilst Juvederm is a good product, Restylane is much better. Restylane lasts longer, gives greater lifting to the skin and has low side effects. The syringe is also nicer to use which makes for easier application.”
Another UK expert, Dr. Brent Tanner, a consulting plastic and reconstructive surgeon, prefers using Restylane because it has very few side effects, lasts nine months and is user-friendly. “Juvederm is a cheaper copy and there is no room for this in my practice. At this point, I have no necessity of changing to any other form of hyaluronic acid,” says Dr. Tanner.
Despite being the more expensive of the pair, Dr. Perry says Restylane will continue to dominate the market in both the UK and the US. He said “Restylane has always been the market leader, it is an effective and trusted product and I doubt Juvederm will manage to catch up.”
